Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1. What is Luxe Home Swap and what is a 'Luxe' home?

If you ever thought about the film ‘The Holiday’ and swapping your home for someone else’s, then read on.

Luxe Home Swap allows you to exchange your house for a short or long period of time with someone else around the world.

Swap your home or your holiday home with other properties and save on hotel bills whilst holidaying like a local.

Exchange your home for a New York loft or a beachside villa in Majorca or a riad in Morocco – all for less than the price of one night in a hotel.

A 'Luxe' home doesn't have to be luxury - a nice location can be as important as size. It's common for members to swap a cosy city one-bedroom apartment for a bigger home in the country or by the sea, as people want different things at different times when they travel.

  • 3. Who is Luxe Home Swap for?

    - Families who want space as much as style - somewhere with a nice kitchen, outside space, and a place that's kitted out for kids

    - Globetrotters who want holidays with local character without paying expensive hotel bills - and enjoy more frequent or longer holidays for the same budget

    - Expats who want to take time visiting family and friends abroad - and make maximum value of their home or second home

    - Smart businesspeople, freelancers, creatives, teachers....who can benefit from a change of scene while still working in a home away from home

  • 4. Why Luxe Home Swap?

Home swapping has been around for decades, and is currently enjoying rapid growth as more and more people want holidays that offer interesting local experiences - without costing the earth.

Luxe Home Swap allows people to swap their home or holiday home with other nice houses in major cities and holiday locations around the world in a smart, user-friendly way.

  • 5. What are your top tips for a happy swap?

    - Communicate fully with your swap partner to find out everything you need to know about staying in each other’s home. Members can sometimes exchange 20 to 30 messages to confirm a swap and often a phone call can help too.

    - Ensure your home is stocked up on basics such as nice kitchen staples

    - Make sure your home is tidy before your swap partner arrives, and leave the home you've visited in a similar manner

    - Make solid arrangements about the collection and handing back of keys - perhaps a neighbour or friend could help

    - Give your home insurance company a ring to ensure you're fully covered while it's occupied by other people. And take out any extra cover if you need to, as insurance is your sole responsibility. Most home policies will cover an exchange, with the other party regarded as guests invited into your home.

  • 6. How does insurance work?

Insurance companies generally take the view that it is better to have someone staying in your home than to leave it empty. Give your home insurance company a ring to ensure your home will be fully covered while it's occupied by other people. And take out any extra cover if you need to, as insurance is your sole responsibility.

Most home policies will cover an exchange, with the other party regarded as guests invited into your home.

  • 7. Who is the team behind Luxe Home Swap?

Luxe Home Swap was the brainchild of serial entrepreneur Debbie Wosskow and is backed by Maidthorn Partners LLP (www.maidthorn.com

  • 8. Can I do non-simultaneous swaps?

Yes, your arrangements are completely up to you and your exchange partner. Members can agree simultaneous or non-simultaneous exchanges with other members.

For example, a member could swap 7 days over Easter in Manhattan for 10 days in the Summer in the South of France - it's completely at your discretion.

  • 9. How do members contact each other about home exchanges?

Members contact each other about home exchanges through the messaging system within the Luxe Home Swap website itself. You will also receive an email to alert you each time you receive a new message - similar to how messaging works via Facebook.

  • 10. Do I have to add a photo of my home straight away when I join? Do I need to add a photo to list my property?

Don't worry if you don't have a photo to hand when you join. You can return later to add photos or other details - simply follow the link in the Welcome email we sent you. We strongly recommend that you add at least one photo to your listing to get the most out of your membership, as this will really increase the number of other members looking at your listing.

  • 11. Will other members be able to see my phone number, email or home address? Can they see my full name?

Your phone number and email address will not be made visible anywhere on the website. We just display the area in which you live - not your exact address.

If you prefer, you can choose just to enter just the wider district in which you live when placing your property on the map when signing up. For example, UK users could just enter the first half of their postcode.

To protect your privacy, members cannot see your full name when contacting you about a home exchange - just your first name.

  • 12. How do I log in to Luxe Home Swap as a member?

You can log in via the Login link in the top right corner of the site using your email address and password that you entered when you signed up for the site originally. You can also find these in the Welcome email we sent you. Don't worry if you have forgotten your password - you can ask to be sent a link to update this when you click on 'Login'.

  • 13. Can members that own more than 1 home place all of these on the site?

Members can place as many properties on the site as they wish without any extra fee per home. Simply log in to the site, go to your My Account area, and click on the 'Add home' link. If you have any questions about how to do this, you can contact info@luxehomeswap.com

  • 14. How do I edit my property listing and profile?

Simply log in to the site, go to your 'My Account' area, and click on 'My homes' or 'Edit my profile'. If you have any questions about how to do this, simply email info@luxehomeswap.com

  • 15. How do I contact Luxe Home Swap with any queries?

  • 16. Is there a time limit in which to swap and is there a limit on how many times you can swap?

There is no limit on time or number of swaps.

  • 17. What can members do to make their swap as safe as possible?

Industry experts state that it is very rare for complaints about theft or damage to be reported.
Just to be on the safe side, it is advised for members to lock away any valuable possessions that you instinctively would not want to leave out on display.

  • 18. What kind of documentation needs to be signed and completed?

The Luxe Home Swap site takes you through the process of confirming exchange details with your exchange partner online in a simple and secure way. This covers the essentials and confirms your swap.

You can initiate this process simply by clicking on the ‘Agree exchange’ button in the top right corner of your ‘Under discussion’ conversation with your swap partner.

Then simply complete your details for your half of the swap and submit the form. Your exchange partner then receives an email alert with a link for them to complete online the details of their half of swap.

You'll then receive an email alert with a link for you to review the overall details of the swap and click to agree the final details. Then you're set to go ahead with your swap.

Don't worry if dates changes - you can simply edit this Swap Confirmation form at any stage via your 'My Account' area, and resend for agreement.

For any questions, please contact us on info@luxehomeswap.com

We also provide a downloadable Agreement Form once you have completed the online Swap Confirmation, which you can fill out and share with each other if you'd also like to have a written record of your agreement.

  • 19. What are your Terms of Use?

Please see our full terms of use here - these apply to all users of Luxe Home Swap.

  • 20. What is your Privacy Policy?

We take your privacy very seriously and don't share your personal information to anyone. Please see our full Privacy Policy here - this policy applies to all users of Luxe Home Swap

  • 21. How will my property listing look?

You can take a look at this by logging in, clicking 'My account' and then 'My homes'. The more information and photos you include when you list your home, the more this will showcase your home to other members.

  • 22. Will members be able to swap cars and other forms of transport? If so, how will insurance work on this?

Many do, as you can save on hire-car costs, and even leave your cars at the airport for one another to save on taxis. But before you make the agreement, check that your insurance policy allows your exchange partner to drive your car – if an extra premium is charged, sort out who will pay.

  • 23. What about bed linen?

We would recommend that fresh, pressed bed linen and towels are provided for the beginning of a swap.

  • 24. What about pets?

Home exchangers tend to leave their homes free of pets, making private arrangements for their care elsewhere, unless it is agreed otherwise between the swappers.

  • 25. What happens if at the last minute the swap cannot go through on one side e.g. flights have to be cancelled for unavoidable reasons?

It is rare that a cancellation last minute happens and if this does occur Luxe Home Swap can be contacted and can help try to arrange another swap. We recommend that members take out their own flight cancellation insurance as an extra precaution.

  • 26. How would I cancel my membership?

If you'd just like to hide your listing temporarily, you can contact us at info@luxehomeswap.com and we'll arrange this for you.

For any cancellations, you can email your membership details (full name and email address) and cancellation request to info@luxehomeswap.com. This will ensure that you won't be charged for any future membership payments.
